Amazon is revolutionizing online shopping with its new AI – generated audio summaries that deliver key product information in conversational, podcast-style formats. Currently in testing for select U.S. customers, this innovative feature allows shoppers to tap a “Hear the highlights” button in the Amazon app to listen to AI-voiced overviews of product features, customer reviews, and web-sourced details.
The tech giant designed these audio summaries specifically for products that typically require more research before purchase. Using advanced large language models, Amazon’s system compiles relevant data into digestible audio clips voiced by what it calls “AI-powered shopping experts”. The company describes the experience as similar to having knowledgeable friends discuss potential purchases with you.
This feature joins Amazon’s growing suite of AI shopping tools, including the Rufus AI assistant and personalized product recommendations through its Interests feature. The audio summaries aim to save time for busy shoppers who want to research products while multitasking or on the move.
Amazon’s move follows similar innovations in the AI space, like Google’s NotebookLM which offers AI – generated audio overviews of documents. As the feature expands to more products and customers in coming months, it could fundamentally change how consumers research and evaluate products online.
