Facebook Lets Creators Earn Money from Stories

Facebook has introduced a new way for creators to make money by allowing them to earn income from views on their public stories. This feature is now available globally for creators participating in the Facebook Content Monetization program.

With this monetization option, creators can turn their regular content into earnings by sharing it on their Facebook stories. For example, if a creator posts a cooking video or a daily life update, they can now earn revenue from that content.

According to a Facebook spokesperson, the payouts for stories are based on how well the content performs. Creators can start earning money without needing to hit a specific view threshold first. This addition aims to provide creators with another income source and encourage them to create more content on the platform.

This launch is part of Meta’s efforts to attract TikTok creators to Facebook and Instagram by offering cash bonuses and support for community growth. Creators who are already part of the Facebook Content Monetization program and have enabled monetization don’t need to take any extra steps to start earning from stories.

Last year, Facebook consolidated its monetization efforts, merging In-stream ads, Ads on Reels, and Performance Bonus programs into one Content Monetization program. After testing story monetization with a select group of creators, the feature is now available to all eligible participants.

In 2024, millions of creators were invited to join this program, and Facebook plans to open enrollment to more creators this year. Those not yet in the program can express interest through the program’s website.

Facebook reported that creators earned over $2 billion on the platform in 2024, with payouts for Reels and short videos increasing by over 80%. Since launching monetization options in 2017, Facebook has paid more than 4 million creators.
