Facebook Turns All Videos Into Reels

Facebook has announced a big update that will change how users share videos. Soon, every video shared on Facebook – no matter how long or what format – will be posted as a reel. This means users will no longer have to choose between uploading a video or a reel. It will all be one format.

The platform is also changing the name of its “Video” tab. It will now be called the “Reels” tab. Facebook says this update will not affect which videos are shown to users, but it will make the video-sharing process easier and faster.

Currently, reels on Facebook are limited to 90 seconds, but this restriction is going away. In the future, users can post videos of any length or style as reels. The company wants to simplify how people share content and use creative tools.

This move follows Instagram’s similar update back in 2022. Instagram began converting all videos under 15 minutes into reels. Facebook is now doing the same to create a more unified video-sharing experience.

According to Facebook, this new update will offer:

  • A simpler way to upload videos
  • More creative tools in one place
  • The ability to set who can see your reels (everyone, friends, or custom)

However, some users might not be happy with the change. For example, horizontal videos may not look great in a vertical reel format. Others might not enjoy seeing short clips mixed with longer videos.

Despite the change, Facebook says the platform will still support all kinds of video content, including short clips, long-form videos, and even Live videos.

This update will be released globally in the coming months, so users will start seeing the new format soon.
