Google is updating Gmail’s search feature to help users find emails more quickly and efficiently. Instead of just displaying results in chronological order, Gmail will now use AI to sort emails based on relevance. The system considers factors like how recently an email was received, how often a user interacts with certain contacts, and which emails are clicked the most.
With this update, important emails are more likely to appear at the top of search results, making it easier to find information without scrolling through a long list of messages. However, users who prefer to see emails in order can switch between “Most relevant” and “Most recent” using a new toggle on the search results page.
This AI-powered search enhancement is rolling out globally for personal Google accounts and will be available on the Gmail web platform as well as the Android and iOS apps. Google also plans to expand this feature to business users soon.
Gmail has been adding several smart features to improve user experience. Recently, it introduced a Gemini-powered tool that allows users to add events to Google Calendar directly from their inbox. Gmail also launched “summary cards,” which let users track packages, check in for flights, set reminders, and manage bills—all without leaving the app. Additionally, users can now chat with Gemini within Gmail on iOS and Android for better inbox management.
These improvements aim to make Gmail more powerful and user-friendly, enhancing productivity and efficiency.
