Harshit Rana Creates History on ODI Debut with Stunning Performance Against England

Indian cricket witnessed a historic moment as young pacer Harshit Rana delivered an exceptional performance on his ODI debut, helping India restrict England to a modest 248 in the series opener at Nagpur. With three crucial wickets, Rana joined the elite list of Indian bowlers who have taken three or more wickets on debut across all formats.

England got off to a flying start after opting to bat first, showing aggressive intent. Rana faced a tough initiation, conceding 26 runs in his very first over, as the explosive Phil Salt unleashed a flurry of boundaries and sixes. Captain Rohit Sharma responded by introducing spin, bringing in Axar Patel (1/38) to control the run flow.

Just when England looked set for a massive total, India turned the game around with exceptional fielding and disciplined bowling. Shreyas Iyer’s brilliance in the field saw Salt run out following a mix-up with his partner. Rana, bouncing back from his expensive start, struck twice in his fourth over, dismissing Ben Duckett and Harry Brook in quick succession. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s breathtaking catch at midwicket to remove Duckett added to the drama, putting India in command.

With England losing early momentum, seasoned all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja (3/26) played a pivotal role in dismantling the middle order. He trapped Joe Root LBW, further denting England’s hopes of a comeback. Skipper Jos Buttler (52) put up resistance with a composed half-century, but his dismissal off Axar Patel ended England’s chances of posting a formidable total.

Despite wickets tumbling at regular intervals, youngster Jacob Bethell showed resilience, scoring a fighting 51. However, his dismissal to Jadeja sealed England’s fate, as they were bowled out for 248.

A Historic Feat for Rana

According to official broadcaster Star Sports, Harshit Rana is now the first Indian bowler to take three wickets on debut in all three formats—Test, ODI, and T20I. Having made his Test debut against Australia in Perth last year and his T20I debut in Pune last month, Rana’s remarkable consistency across formats marks him as a rising star in Indian cricket.

With this spectacular start to his ODI career, Harshit Rana has undoubtedly announced his arrival on the international stage, leaving Indian cricket fans excited for what’s to come.
