iOS 18 Now Runs on 82% of Compatible iPhones – Apple Reports

Apple has revealed impressive adoption numbers for iOS 18, with over 82% of eligible iPhones now running the latest operating system. This marks a significant jump from the 68% adoption rate reported in January 2024, showing strong user uptake since the software’s September 2024 release.

The tech giant shared these statistics ahead of next week’s WWDC 2025, where it’s expected to unveil iOS 26. Notably, these figures combine all versions of iOS 18, meaning some users may be running earlier iterations rather than the most current update.

Device compatibility plays a key role in these numbers, with iOS 18 supporting iPhone XR/XS models and newer. Apple reports even higher adoption (88%) among iPhones released in the last four years. The iPad ecosystem shows similar trends, with 71% of eligible tablets running iPadOS 18 – a figure that rises to 81% for newer models.

While Apple hasn’t disclosed specific adoption data for its Apple Intelligence features, the strong overall iOS 18 numbers suggest healthy engagement with the platform’s capabilities. These statistics demonstrates Apple’s ability to quickly deploy software updates across its massive user base, a key advantage in the competitive smartphone market.

With WWDC 2025 starting Monday, all eyes are now on what iOS 26 might bring to continue this momentum of rapid user adoption.
