Talk to AI on WhatsApp: New Voice Chat Feature Coming Soon

WhatsApp is testing a new feature for Android users that allows voice conversations with Meta AI. This real-time voice chat lets users speak with the chatbot instead of just typing, making the experience more personal and interactive. The new feature is currently available to a limited group of beta testers but is expected to roll out more widely soon.

This feature was seen in the WhatsApp beta version 2.25.21.21. It gives users the option to talk directly to Meta AI by simply tapping the waveform icon inside the chat. There’s also a setting that lets users automatically switch to voice mode when opening the AI chat. However, this option is turned off by default and only works in the chat tab.

When using the Call tab, the Meta AI icon changes to a waveform icon, starting a voice chat automatically. This design fits better with the Call tab’s purpose and keeps the experience smooth.

While chatting with Meta AI, users will also see suggested topics in the chat. These help start the conversation easily. There’s also a small collapse icon at the top, which allows the voice chat to continue in the background. This means users can open other apps and still keep talking to the AI.

Ending the voice conversation is simple. Users can tap the X button, switch back to typing, or leave the chat. If someone isn’t sure if the AI is still listening, they can check the ongoing call alert or Android’s microphone use alert.

WhatsApp continues to bring smart features to users. With this voice chat option, talking to Meta AI becomes easier and more natural. It adds to WhatsApp’s goal of making communication flexible and fast.
