Spotify Fixing Bug That Played Ads for Premium Users

Spotify has confirmed a bug causing some Premium subscribers to hear ads despite paying for an ad-free experience. The issue has been widely reported by users over the past month, and Spotify acknowledged the problem in a post on X, directing users to its Community website for updates.

According to Spotify, this is a separate issue from a previously reported bug. The company stated that only a small number of users were affected and that a fix has been deployed. However, as of now, the X support account is still advising users to try workarounds like logging out and back in.

Many frustrated subscribers have reported the issue across mobile, desktop, and web versions of Spotify. Some users ensured their payment details were correct before reporting the problem, while others demanded refunds due to not receiving the Premium experience they paid for.

This comes as Spotify plans to introduce new subscription tiers, including a “superfan” option offering exclusive music and video content. Meanwhile, YouTube recently launched its Premium Lite plan, which provides ad-free videos outside of music content for $7.99 per month but does not include YouTube Music or background play.
