Social media has been flooded with claims that Qatar has closed its airspace and suspended flights. The General Authority of Civil Aviation of Qatar has now issued a clarification. The authority says these claims are false. Normal flight operations continue without interruption.
What the Aviation Authority Said
According to the Qatar News Agency, an active aeronautical notice is in place. But it is strictly a strategic measure to establish alternative routing. This ensures that air navigation services continue operating at peak efficiency and under the highest safety standards. The authority emphasized that all measures follow international aviation practices and standards. Regular commercial flights continue to operate normally.
The authority also issued a stern warning against spreading unverified claims. It noted that such actions may result in legal liability. It strongly advised the public to consult only official state media and authorized aviation channels for verified updates.
Why the Rumors Started
The rumors come amid rising regional tensions. On Sunday, an Israeli airstrike targeted southern Beirut. It was the first attack on the Lebanese capital since a US-brokered truce was renewed last week. Lebanon’s state news agency reported that two separate airstrikes struck apartment buildings in the Dahiyeh district. This area is a prominent Hezbollah stronghold. Two people were killed and 17 others were injured.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the latest operations. He stated that Israel targeted “terrorist headquarters in the Dahieh district of Beirut” in direct response to Hezbollah firing into Israeli territory.
The Broader Conflict
More than 3,560 people have been killed by Israeli strikes in Lebanon since the country was drawn into the broader regional conflict on March 2. The conflict began after Hezbollah launched retaliatory attacks on Israel in support of Iran.
Iran’s Response
On social media, Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesperson for Iran’s parliamentary National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, stated that Iran would launch a powerful response. “We will deliver a decisive and painful response to the Zionist regime’s attack on Dahiyeh,” Rezaei wrote. “These rabid dogs must be disciplined and put back in their place. Watch the skies over the occupied lands tonight.”
Qatar’s airspace remains open. Flights are operating normally. But the region is on edge. An Israeli strike in Beirut has killed two people. Iran is promising retaliation. The rumors of airspace closure were false. But the tension behind them is very real.
