Major X Platform Outage Sparks Cyber-Attack Concerns

Elon Musk’s social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), faced a widespread outage on Monday, affecting thousands of users across the US and UK. The issue left many unable to load their feeds on both the app and desktop versions. Reports from Downdetector showed a significant spike in complaints, with over 8,000 users in the UK and tens of thousands in the US experiencing disruptions.

Musk attributed the outage to a “massive cyber-attack” originating from the “Ukraine area.” However, he provided no concrete evidence or details about potential state involvement. Speaking to Fox Business, Musk mentioned that the attack was possibly coordinated by a large group or even a country.

Network monitoring group Netblocks suggested that the issue resembled a large-scale cyber-attack rather than a technical failure. Director Alp Toker noted that the prolonged outages were consistent with denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, which flood websites with excessive traffic to force them offline.

Musk has previously claimed that X has been targeted by similar attacks, though these incidents remain unverified. This latest disruption was one of the longest in the platform’s history, lasting for several hours.

Adding to the controversy, Musk engaged in a heated exchange with US Senator Mark Kelly on X. Musk called Kelly a “traitor” for his recent visit to Ukraine, while Kelly responded, emphasizing the importance of supporting global freedom.
