A Woman’s Unbreakable Bond: Cloning Her Beloved Dog

A woman from Hangzhou, China, made headlines after spending Rs 19 lakh (160,000 yuan) to clone her beloved dog. Her pet, a Doberman named Joker, had been with her for over a decade, becoming an inseparable part of her life. From her school years to her professional journey, Joker stood by her side, offering unconditional love and support.

Joker’s health took a turn for the worse when he was diagnosed with malignant sarcoma in his neck. Despite undergoing surgery without sedation, he bravely endured the procedure. However, complications arose the following year when he developed heart problems, leading to severe coughing and breathing issues. Despite receiving the best possible care, Joker passed away from a heart attack in November 2022 at the age of 11.

His loss left the woman devastated, affecting both her physical and mental health. Struggling with insomnia and frequent illnesses, she found it difficult to move on. Having followed the pet cloning industry for years, she saw an opportunity to bring Joker back in some form. Without hesitation, she reached out to a cloning facility and provided a small skin sample from Joker’s abdomen and ears for the procedure.

A year later, she received confirmation that the cloning process was successful. Just before the 2024 Lunar New Year, she welcomed “Little Joker” into her life. The cloned pup had the same black spot near its nose and displayed similar habits, bringing back memories of her lost companion. She expressed that raising Little Joker gave her a second chance to love and care for her pet without regrets.

Pet cloning is legal in China under strict ethical guidelines, and companies involved in this process must meet regulatory qualifications. While the practice remains controversial, for this grieving pet owner, it provided an emotional connection and a way to heal from her loss.
