Trump’s Big Move: Education Department Faces Major Staff Cuts

The Trump administration has taken a bold step by announcing a major staff reduction at the Department of Education. Nearly half of the workforce is set to be affected, aligning with Trump’s broader vision to reduce the department’s size.

The decision was confirmed in an official statement, marking a significant shift in the government’s approach to education policies. Education Secretary Linda McMahon stated that this move is the first step toward fulfilling Trump’s directive to streamline operations and eliminate unnecessary bureaucratic layers.

The affected employees will be placed on administrative leave starting March 21, with full pay continuing until June 9. At the time Trump took office, the department had around 4,100 employees. In recent weeks, approximately 600 staff members either resigned or retired voluntarily under a broader government-wide restructuring effort. An additional 1,300 employees will now be placed on administrative leave, impacting all areas of the department.

This decision is seen as part of a larger strategy to reduce government spending and reshape federal education policies. As changes unfold, the impact on education services and administration remains a topic of national discussion.
