TikTok’s New Parental Controls: See Followers & Block Access Anytime

TikTok is adding new features to help parents manage their teen’s screen time and online interactions. The platform now allows parents to block their teen’s access to the app during specific hours and view their teen’s follower and following lists. These updates aim to create a safer space for young users while promoting responsible social media habits.

With the new “Time Away” feature, parents can schedule when their teens cannot use TikTok. They can set limits during school hours, bedtime, or family time. Teens can request extra time, but parents have the final say on granting access.

Additionally, parents can now see who their teen follows, who follows them, and even who they have blocked. This feature encourages open conversations about online safety and helps teens make informed digital choices.

TikTok is also improving its “wind-down” feature to promote healthy screen habits. Teens under 16 using the app after 10 p.m. will see full-screen messages with calming music, encouraging them to log off. If they dismiss the message, a second reminder will appear. In the coming weeks, TikTok plans to introduce meditation exercises to help teens relax before bedtime.

These updates come as TikTok and other social media platforms face scrutiny from lawmakers regarding their impact on young users. With growing concerns about social media addiction and safety, TikTok aims to balance engagement with responsible use.

As the platform’s future in the U.S. remains uncertain due to ongoing legal challenges, these new safety measures show TikTok’s efforts to address concerns while maintaining its popularity among teens.
