Toyota Smashes Sales Records in India – Here’s How They Did It

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has achieved its best-ever sales performance in India, marking a historic milestone for the company. In the financial year 2024-25, Toyota sold 3,37,148 units, showing an impressive 28% growth compared to the previous year’s sales of 2,63,512 units.

March 2025 Sales Breakthrough

The automaker continued its strong performance in March 2025, selling 30,043 units—an 11% increase over March 2024. Domestic sales contributed 28,373 units, while exports added 1,670 units, showcasing balanced growth across markets.

What Drove Toyota’s Success?

  • SUV & MPV Boom: Sales in these segments surged by 35%, proving the popularity of models like the Innova HyCross and Urban Cruiser HyRyder.
  • Hybrid Momentum: Toyota’s strong hybrid technology lineup continues to attract eco-conscious buyers.
  • Export Growth: Overseas shipments jumped by 59%, expanding Toyota’s global footprint.
  • Tier II & III Expansion: Increased presence in smaller cities helped tap into new customer bases.

Varinder Wadhwa, Vice President of Sales at Toyota India, credited the success to the company’s customer-first approach and initiatives like T-CARE, which enhance the ownership experience. He emphasized that despite rising competition, Toyota’s diverse portfolio and strong brand trust are driving consistent growth.

Looking Ahead

With this record-breaking year, Toyota has set a strong foundation for future growth in India’s competitive auto market. The company’s focus on SUVs, hybrids, and rural expansion appears to be a winning strategy.
