Apple is reportedly gearing up to launch an updated of its budget-friendly Apple Watch SE, with key upgrades that could make it more appealing than ever. According to industry analyst Ross Young, the new models will feature larger displays, matching the 41mm and 45mm sizes previously seen in Apple’s premium watches. This move suggests Apple is refining its smartwatch lineup to better differentiate between its affordable and high-end offerings.
The last Apple Watch SE was released in 2022, brining a major improvement with the same S8 chip found in the flagship Apple Watch Series 8. Now, it seems Apple is focusing on display size as the next big upgrade. Interestingly, while the upcoming Apple Watch Series 10 is expected to move to even larger 42mm and 46mm cases, the new SE models will adopt the older, but still spacious, 41mmm and 45mm sizes. This strategy could help Apple maintain a clear distinction between its premium and budget models.
Another rumored change involved Apple testing a plastic casing for the Watch SE to cut costs. However, recent reports suggest the company may stick with aluminum, as switching materials proved more expensive than expected. Additionally, Apple’s design team reportedly wasn’t satisfied with how a plastic version cooked, meaning the new SE will likely retain its familiar aluminum build.
With production reportedly underway, the next Apple Watch SE could arrive sooner rather than later. If the leaks hold true, users can expect a more modern design with bigger screens while keeping the SE’s signature afforadability.
