The tragic crash of Air India flight AI-171 in Ahmedabad has left many families devastated. Among the 241 passengers on board was 30-year-old Harpreet Singh from Indore, who was flying to London to surprise her husband on his birthday. Sadly, her journey ended in tragedy just 38 seconds after take-off.
Harpreet was a software engineer working in Bengaluru, while her husband Roby Singh Hora, also an engineer, lives and works in London. The couple married in 2020 and had been living apart due to work commitments. Harpreet had once stayed in London but returned to India after losing her job and later joined a tech company in Bengaluru.
Her father-in-law, Harjeet Singh Hora, shared that she had planned to celebrate her husband’s birthday on June 16 and had booked her flight from Ahmedabad to London. She often visited him, but this trip ended in sorrow. Her seat was 22E on the ill-fated Boeing Dreamliner, which crashed shortly after take-off, killing everyone on board and causing casualties on the ground as well.
According to Rajendra Singh Hora, a family relative, the crash not only took Harpreet’s life but also shattered the dreams of the young couple. The crash site was horrific, with the plane hitting a residential building and part of a college mess, followed by an explosion caused by the large amount of fuel loaded for the long-haul journey.
Family members rushed to Ahmedabad to claim Harpreet’s remains, but as of now, they have not yet received them. Meanwhile, relatives and friends gathered at her family home in Indore, mourning the sudden and tragic loss.
The crash has shocked the entire nation and beyond, especially since among the victims was also senior BJP leader and former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who was traveling to London to meet his daughter.
This heartbreaking incident is a reminder of the unpredictability of life and the pain that such aviation disasters leave behind. As investigations continue, families wait for answers and hold on to memories of their loved ones.
