Gaza Violence Continues Despite Ceasefire Announcement

The death toll in Gaza has surged to alarming levels, with over 100 Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks since the announcement of a ceasefire deal set to take effect on Sunday. Among the victims are 27 children and 31 women, highlighting the devastating toll on civilians, as reported by Gaza’s civil defense authorities.

Israel’s cabinet is expected to convene today to decide on the approval of the ceasefire agreement. However, internal political tension looms large as two ministers from the far-right ultranationalist bloc threaten to resign from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government if the agreement is ratified.

The ongoing conflict has left Gaza grappling with a staggering humanitarian crisis. The United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees reports that approximately 15 children in Gaza sustain life-altering injuries daily. The war, which began on October 7, 2023, has claimed at least 46,788 Palestinian lives and left 110,453 wounded. In Israel, 1,139 individuals were killed during the initial Hamas-led attacks, with more than 200 taken captive.

The ceasefire announcement brings a glimmer of hope, yet the human cost of the conflict leaves deep scars on both sides, underscoring the urgent need for lasting peace and humanitarian relief.
