Mercedes-Benz EVs to Gain Access to Tesla Superchargers Starting February

In an exciting development for electric vehicle (EV) enthusiasts, Mercedes-Benz has announced that its electric vehicles will gain access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network beginning in February. This integration marks a significant step forward in expanding charging options for Mercedes EV owners. Currently, Tesla boasts an impressive 20,000 Supercharger stalls across the US and Canada, dramatically enhancing public charging options for EV owners.

The rollout will start with NACS-to-CCS adapters, allowing compatibility with Tesla’s charging network. These adapters, available through authorized dealerships for $185, are manufactured by Lectron, a leading EV charging supplier. Mercedes-Benz has emphasized that this adapter has been rigorously tested for safety and compatibility with its EV lineup. It also boasts a robust interlock mechanism between the cable and adapter, ensuring a reliable connection. Notably, Lectron resolved previous issues with faulty latch pins in April 2024, and no problems have been reported since.

This move follows the trend of other automakers, including Ford, General Motors, Rivian, Volvo, Polestar, and Nissan, which have already secured access to Tesla’s Superchargers. Mercedes-Benz will also integrate Tesla Supercharger locations into its proprietary charging app, making it easier for users to locate and utilize these stations. Additionally, the system will support Plug & Charge technology, streamlining the process by initiating charging automatically once the vehicle is plugged in, without the need for extra steps or authorizations.

Later this year, Mercedes plans to introduce its first EVs with native NACS ports, though the specific models have not been disclosed. The brand’s diverse lineup, which includes the luxurious EQS, the more accessible EQE and EQB, and the iconic electric G-Wagen, ensures a wide range of options for customers.

Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to EV infrastructure goes beyond Tesla Supercharger access. The company is actively involved in expanding fast-charging networks in partnership with solar energy firm MN8 Energy and the Ionna venture alongside other prominent automakers. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to enhance charging accessibility and convenience for EV users worldwide.

As Tesla’s Supercharger network opens to even more automakers, the collaborative approach to standardizing EV charging infrastructure is setting the stage for a seamless, user-friendly electric vehicle experience. Mercedes-Benz’s integration with this network underscores the brand’s commitment to delivering innovative and practical solutions for its growing EV customer base.
