Nerdio Raises $500M to Boost Virtual Desktops on Azure

Nerdio, a cloud management platform focused on Microsoft technologies, has secured $500 million in Series C funding. This investment pushes the company’s valuation past $1 billion, though the exact figure remains undisclosed.

Founded in 2020 as a spin-off from Adar, Nerdio has positioned itself as a key player in cloud-based IT solutions. The platform simplifies cloud infrastructure management, helping businesses optimize Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows applications. It automates user provisioning, application deployment, and cost optimization through auto-scaling features.

Virtual desktops allow users to access files, applications, and settings from any device via the internet, offering a seamless remote work experience. Nerdio’s cloud-native approach is a modern alternative to legacy solutions like Citrix, catering to the growing demand for hybrid and remote work environments.

Managing cloud systems can be complex and expensive, often requiring specialized skills and multiple tools. Nerdio provides an all-in-one platform that streamlines Microsoft cloud environments, eliminating the need for extra technical expertise or third-party solutions.

Before this funding round, Nerdio had raised $8 million in Series A funding in 2020, followed by $117 million in Series B funding three years later. The latest investment, led by General Atlantic with participation from Lead Edge Capital and StepStone, will support Nerdio’s expansion efforts. While ownership details remain undisclosed, the company’s founders still hold a significant stake.

Nerdio plans to use the new funds to enhance its product lineup for key Microsoft services, including Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows 365, and Microsoft 365. Additionally, the company aims to expand its global workforce, which currently stands at 300 employees, to strengthen its customer support and engineering teams.
