OpenAI’s new AI image feature in ChatGPT is facing an unexpected delay for free users due to overwhelming demand. CEO Sam Altman recently shared on X that the popularity of the feature has exceeded expectations, leading to a postponed rollout for non-paying users.
This innovative image generation tool, introduced with GPT-4o, allows users to upload and modify images within ChatGPT. OpenAI initially announced that the feature would be available to all users soon. However, as of now, it has only been rolled out to ChatGPT Pro, Plus, and Teams subscribers.
OpenAI has encountered similar issues with previous launches, often pointing to limited computing power as the reason for delays. The company had to disable new signups for Sora shortly after its release in December due to capacity challenges. To address these limitations, OpenAI is reportedly working on a massive $500 billion data center project called Stargate, which could help improve performance and scalability.
