YouTube’s New Test to Reduce Unwanted Notifications

YouTube is testing a new feature to help users manage notifications from channels they no longer watch. Currently, users receive push notifications from all subscribed channels if they have selected the “All” setting. While this ensures they stay updated, it can become frustrating when notifications keep coming from channels they no longer engage with. The only solution has been to manually unsubscribe or adjust notification settings, but YouTube’s latest experiment may offer an easier alternative.

Google has confirmed that during this test, users who haven’t interacted with a channel for a while will stop receiving push notifications from it. However, these notifications will still be available in the notification inbox within the YouTube app. This change will not affect channels that upload content less frequently or those that users actively watch.

YouTube aims to provide a balance between reducing unwanted notifications and ensuring creators can still connect with their audience. The experiment is currently limited to select users, and it remains unclear when or if it will be rolled out globally.

Other YouTube Experiments

YouTube is also testing other features, including an automated review for videos that receive a “Limited or no ads” rating. This review process could take up to 24 hours, even for private videos. Additionally, the platform is experimenting with an option to hide end screens on both desktop and mobile, allowing users to dismiss them with a simple click.
