WhatsApp May Soon Let You Log Out Without Losing Chats

WhatsApp appears to be developing a much-needed feature that would finally let users log out of their accounts on primary devices. Currently in testing via the Android beta version  2.25.17.37, this functionality could solve a long-standing limitation of the messaging platform.

The new logout option, discovered by tech researchers, gives users three choices when signing out: erase all data, keep all data, or cancel the action. This means you could temporarily step away from WhatsApp without permanently deleting your chat history – something previously only possible by uninstalling the app entirely.

For those wanting a digital detox, selecting “Keep all Data & preferences” would preserve messages and media on your device for when you return. The “Erase” option works like a clean logout, removing everything as if you’d uninstalled the app.

This development addresses a common frustration among messaging app users who’ve had no middle ground between staying constantly connected or wiping their accounts. While still in testing, the feature shows WhatsApp’s growing focus on giving users more control over their messaging experience.
