X Tries New Way to Show Posts Liked by Opposing Views

X (formerly Twitter) has started testing a new feature that highlights posts liked by users with different opinions. This experiment aims to find common ground by showing which content brings together people from opposing sides.

The new test builds on the platform’s Community Notes system, a crowdsourced tool that flags misleading or incorrect content. Now, some contributors will see a new prompt asking them to rate certain posts based on early Like patterns. These posts are chosen when they receive likes from people who usually disagree with each other.

X says the goal is to develop an open-source algorithm that identifies content appreciated by users with diverse viewpoints. Contributors will be able to give feedback by selecting reasons such as “I learned something interesting” or “I don’t agree with it” to help fine-tune the system.

The idea is to highlight content that sparks learning or thoughtful discussion across divisions. X believes this could encourage users to share more balanced and insightful ideas. According to X, this could also help reduce online echo chambers and create more understanding on the platform.

Community Notes was first introduced in 2022 after Elon Musk took over the company. Since then, it has become a key tool for content moderation and has even been adopted by platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Threads.

This new approach could help bring fresh attention to posts that connect people, even during debates.
