Real Sugar Coke is Coming to the US – Here’s Why Everyone’s Talking

In a surprising move, Coca-Cola has announced it will introduce a new version of its classic soda sweetened with real cane sugar in the U.S. This decision comes after former President Donald Trump publicly pushed the company to make the change.

For decades, Coca-Cola in the U.S. has used high-fructose corn syrup as its main sweetener, while many other countries enjoy the drink made with traditional sugar. Trump, along with health advocates, has raised concerns over corn syrup’s health effects, though experts say both sweeteners have similar nutritional impacts.

Last week, Trump revealed on his social media platform that Coca-Cola agreed to his request, calling it a “better” choice. The company later confirmed in its investor update that a U.S.-made cane sugar Coke will hit shelves this fall.

James Quincey, Coca-Cola’s CEO, explained that the new product will give customers more choices, aligning with consumer preferences. The company already uses cane sugar in other U.S. products like lemonade and vitamin water.

Interestingly, a version of Coke sweetened with cane sugar—often called “Mexican Coke”—has been popular in the U.S. since 2005. Sold in glass bottles at a premium price, it has built a loyal fanbase. Now, Coca-Cola is bringing that same sugar-sweetened taste to its mainstream lineup.

This shift marks a big win for Trump, who reportedly discussed the idea with the company’s leadership earlier this year. Whether it’s a health-conscious move or just smart marketing, one thing is clear—soda lovers now have another reason to crack open a Coke.
