Jiggy Caliente, the beloved drag performer and TV star, has passed away at the age of 44. Known off-stage as Bianca Castro – Arabejo, she rose to fame through RuPaul’s Drag Race season 4 and became a fan favorite for her humor and vibrant personality. She later appeared in the in the hit TV show Posed and served as a judge on Drag Race Philippines.
Jiggly faced a serious health crisis recently, resulting in the amputation of most of her right leg after a severe infection. Sadly, she passed away early Sunday morning, surrounded by her family and close friends.
Her family shared an emotional statement on Instagram, remembering her “infectious energy, fierce wit, and unwavering authenticity”. They said that although she is no longer physically with us, her spirit, love, and courage will continue to live on.
The drag community and fans around the world have been sharing tributes. Laganja Estranja called her a “king and caring soul,” while Baga Chipz described her as “one of the sweetest people” she had ever met. Cheryl The Queen promised eternal love, and Tia Kofi praised Jiggly’s support and advice during tough times. Drag Race judge Michelle Visage remembered their endless talks, laughter and the powerful energy Jiggy always brought.
Born in the Philippines in 1980, Jiggy moved with her family to Queens, New York, as a child. She quickly became a standout on Drag Race, winning fans with her sharp humor and memorable moments – including inspiring the famous line, “This is not RuPaul’s Best Friend Race”.
Outside of Drag Race, Jiggly built an acting career with roles in shows like Broad City and Search Party. She played Veronica in Pose, which explored New York’s LGBTQ+ ballroom scene of the 1980s and 90s. In 2016, Jiggy came out as transgender, further inspiring her fans and community.
In 2021, she returned for RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars season 6 and continued to share her talent as a judge on Drag Race Philippines for three seasons. Jiggly Caliente’s impact on entertainment, activism and LGBTQ+ visibility will always be remembered.
