Kpop Demon Hunters Sweeps Oscars with Two Big Wins

The global hit problem Kpop Demon Hunters just made history. At this year’s Academy Awards, it won Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Song. The Netflix blockbuster has taken the world by storm since its release last year. Now it has the Oscar gold to prove it.

A Night to Remember

The film’s theme song Golden performed live at the Oscars ceremony. The singers behind the fictional girl group Huntr/x stepped onto the stage. Ejae, Rei Ami, and Audrey Nuna wore flowing golden gowns. They sang to a sea of glowing light sticks, just like at real Kpop concerts.

When they won the award for Best Original Song, Ejae could barely hold back tears. “Growing up, people made fun of me for liking K-pop. But now everyone’s singing our song and all the Korean lyrics, I’m so proud”, she said.

Winning for Korea

The Best Animated Feature award went to directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, along with producer Michelle LM Wong. For Kang, it was her first Oscar nomination and her first win.

“This win is for Korea and for Koreans everywhere”, she said. She also spoke directly to those who share her heritage. “For those of you who look like me, I’m so sorry that it took us so long to see us in a movie like this. But it is here, and that means the next generations don’t have to go longing”.

What the Movie Is About

Kpop Demon Hunters tells the story of a K-pop girl group with a secret mission. They use their voices to fight demons. Their biggest enemies are a boy band from the underworld called Saja Boys. These demon singers capture souls with their hypnotic songs.

The film has captured audiences of all ages. Its mix of music, action, and supernatural elements had made it a global phenomenon.

Music That Took Over the World

The soundtrack has produced multiple hits. Golden, the empowerment anthem, has dominated charts worldwide. Soda Pop, sung by the villainous Saja Boys, has also become a fan favorite.

Last month, Golden became the first K-pop song ever to win a Grammy. Now it has an Oscar too. The film also won Golden Globes for both best animated feature and best original song.

What Comes Next

Netflix has already announced a sequel. No release date has been set yet, but fans are eagerly waiting. After this Oscar sweep, the pressure will be high to deliver another hit.

Kpop Demon Hunters proved that animated films can be just as powerful as live action. It proved that K-pop can conquer Hollywood. And it proved that stories about people who look different can finally take center stage. For one night at least, the demons were no match for the hunters.
