Okra Water: Does It Really Help Your Health?

Okra, also known as bhindi or ladyfinger, is a common vegetable in Indian kitchens. It’s full of nutrients like vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K, antioxidants, fibre, and folate. People often enjoy it in dishes like okra fry, masala, or stew. But recently, okra water is trending as a wellness drink. Many are curious to know if it really offers any health benefits.

Skincare expert Geetika Mittal Gupta shared her thoughts on okra water in a recent social media post. She explained that okra water has become popular online because it is said to support better blood sugar levels, improve digestion, and help with skin and PCOS issues. These benefits are believed to come from the gel-like substance (mucilage) that okra releases when soaked overnight in water.

According to her, okra contains fibre, antioxidants, and vitamins that are good for the stomach and skin. The soluble fibre, in particular, may help manage blood sugar. It might also support digestive health and reduce inflammation. However, she also made it clear that current research on okra water is still limited.

She mentioned that while drinking okra water is not harmful, it should not be seen as a magic cure. It can be part of a healthy lifestyle, but it is not a substitute for proper medical care or a balanced diet.

Her final suggestion is important: anyone thinking of trying new health or skincare trends like okra water should first check with a doctor, especially if they have a health condition.

If you are looking for more healthy snack and drink options, try seasonal fruits, roasted makhana, beetroot cutlets, cucumber with hummus, sprouts salad, chia pudding with berries, coconut water with sabja seeds, or even a small piece of dark chocolate.
