Truecaller Launches Family Protection to Block Scam Calls

Truecaller, the popular caller ID and spam – blocking app, has launched a new feature designed to protect entire households from scam calls. Called “Family Protection”, the feature allows users to create a trusted group with up to five people, helping to safeguard less tech – savvy family members from phone fraud.

The feature works directly within the existing Truecaller app for both Android and iOS. Once available in a region, a user can become the “Family Admin” for their group. This admin can set the overall protection levels, manage a shared blocklist of unwanted numbers, and control how suspicious calls are handled for everyone in the group.

For Android users, the admin gets additional powerful tools. They can receive real-time alerts when a family member receives a potential scam call and can even end that call remotely from their own device. Admins can also check on the status of group members’ phones.

Initially, Family Protection is rolling out in a few select countries, with a planned expansion to more regions, including India, in early 2026. The basic features are included in the free app. However, Truecaller is also introducing a paid “Premium Family” subscription plan. This plan offers an ad-free experience and advanced features like automatic blocking of high-risk numbers and more sophisticated spam filters.

This move not only aims to provide a valuable safety net for families but also represents a strategic step for Truecaller to increase user engagement and generate revenue through its subscription services.
